What is our purpose in life? What is the significance of being born “woman” into this world? Questions like this lie at the heart of human existence and determine the meaning women derive from life. Addressing these issues is the subject matter of southwest Michigan’s first Catholic Women’s Conference – An Exploration in Authentic Feminism. Key themes the conference will develop include:
- The role of women in the divine plan
- Acknowledging and celebrating the differences between women and men
- Single, married, consecrated: finding true meaning in everything you do
- The assault on women’s dignity by the entertainment industry and modern consumerism
- How authentic femininity, through the example of the Blessed Mother, is the model of the Catholic Church
- Using the “feminine genius” to enrich the family, Church, workplace and world
Additionally, conference speakers will address issues many women see as obstacles to full participation in Catholicism such as the Church’s position on sexuality and divorce. "God doesn’t ask more than what we are capable of. If you look beneath the surface, the Church’s teaching is profound and full of beauty," states Marte Cole, the MC of the event. “There’s a lot of confusion on issues like sexuality – our goal at the conference is to add clarity, remove many of the misconceptions, and invite women to pray about and take a deeper look at the theology and reasoning behind the Church’s position,” says Cole.
The keynote speaker is Teresa Tomeo. Teresa is a talk-show host, motivational speaker, and media consultant with more than 20 years of experience as a journalist in television, radio and print media. She hosts the nationally syndicated radio talk show The Catholic Connection produced by Ave Maria Radio Network and heard on 125 stations. Most recently, she was invited to Rome to be one of only 260 international delegates to participate in a "Congress on Women," a reflection and analysis of the papal document On the Dignity of Women.
The conference will include dynamic presentations, lunch, Q&A panel, Mass, and opportunities for prayer, the Sacrament of Confession and Eucharistic adoration.
